Keyboard macros allows you to define shortcuts to any command on your PC, like mouse, keyboard or browser shortcuts to any website.
Keyboard macros are most of the time a tool to speed up repetitive tasks, and sometimes they even improve the quality of your work.
Keyboard macros can be used to accomplish any operation, whatever it is. From changing the volume of your PC, switching between desktop wallpapers, launching applications or even copying the contents of your desktop to your clipboard, keyboard macros can do it all.
However, there are two factors to consider when planning your keyboard macros: you should make sure that your operations are logically grouped and that you avoid using more than one keyboard macro in the same time.
Logical grouping means that you should avoid repeating the same task more than once in a row, so that the time for each of your operations is as short as possible.
For instance, launching more than one instance of the same application and running it without stopping the previous one is not a good practice, because your computer resources will be damaged, and you won’t have the chance to launch the application again.
On the contrary, you can launch more than one instance of the same application in a row and stop the previous one immediately after, without worrying about the running time of the new one.
Here’s a simple example of a logical grouping: launch several instances of the same application and then turn off all of them at once, without delaying the launch of the new ones.
This is just an example, you can easily make your own logical grouping, but it should be based on real reasons.
When planning your keyboard macros, you should avoid using more than one keyboard macro at a time. Of course, you can change your mind when you start executing your macro, but you shouldn’t have two or more running at the same time.
For instance, a keyboard macro to launch your mail and one to start a browser while the mail is being sent, are not a good idea because they will interfere with each other.
If you are running several operations, each one on a separate keyboard macro, then this will not be a problem, but again, think before you start executing more than one keyboard macro.
Usage:
